Lesson 47: Vending machines and bangers. Aug 17th, 2006

We talked about vending machines in Japan and climbing Mt. Fuji. We also discussed the phrasal verb “to get on (with)”.

Corrections:
1/ Bob has discovered that canned coffee (Starbucks brand) is now sold at many convenient stores in the U.S. However, Bob doesn’t recommend it, because it’s overpriced. 2/ There are over 5.3 million vending machines in Japan, not the 100,000 number that Bob mentioned.

Phrasal Verb
“to get on (with)” has a number of meanings:

1) it can mean to put on (clothes) e.g: we should get our hats on because it’s going to be cold.
2) it can mean to enter (a bus etc) or mount (a bike etc) e.g: I can’t get on a horse.
3) it can mean to have a good relationship e.g: Do you and your brother get on? / I don’t get on with my boss.
4) it can mean to continue an activity e.g: Now that the police have left, we can get on with the party.
