και σκοτεινές οι ψυχές των ανθρώπων

and "dark" the souls of humankind

Στης Ανατολής τα μέρη μια φορά κ' έναν καιρό
/ stis Anatolis ta meri, mia fora k' enan kero
in the Eastern "parts", once upon a time
ήταν άδειο το κεμέρι, μουχλιασμένο το νερό
/ itan adio to kemeri, mouhliasmeno to nero
the "purse" was empty, the water "stagnatory"
στη Μοσσούλη, στη Βασσόρα, στην παλιά τη χουρμαδιά

πικραμένα κλαίνε τώρα της ερήμου τα παιδιά
