Never paid much attention when I was a kid in school.
I barely learned to read and write, but don't think I'm no fool.

But please excuse me for scribblin'
I can barely write my name.
Quit school at seventeen, and I ain't the slightest bit ashamed.
      No, no shame.

Teacher tried to tell me "Boy, you'll never get nowhere."
I never got to college, but I sure got in her hair.

But please excuse me for scribblin.'
I can barely write my name.
And if I did it all again I swear I'll do it all just the same.
      Not a thing would change.

You think you got an education boy you know I got one too.
Got the kind of education that you can't get in no school.

But please excuse me for scribblin.'
I can barely write my name.
And if I did it all again I swear I'll do it all just the same.
      Not a thing would change.

Readin' and a-writin' never did get through to me.
But when it came to makin' love I learned my ABCs.

But please excuse me for scribblin.'
I can barely write my name.
And if I did it all again I swear I'll do it all just the same.
      Not a thing would change.

Это интересно: James Page was born in Compton, California, raised in Paramount and Cerritos California. "Whiteboy" spent most of his formative years in Southern California, but his musical influences changed radically when he began listening to his uncles Deep South Rhythm and Blues and Country Records. "Whiteboy" found it difficult to fit into the "Beach Boy" culture, when his soul was into the likes of Cab Calloway, Louis Jordan, Sam "Lightning" Hopkins, Big Joe Turner, and the list goes on to include Elvis, Jerry Lee Lewis, Bob Wills and even Spike Jones. Fast forward to the mid 1980's… the peak period of the Southern Californian blues explosion.... подробнее
