Dollars For The Devil

I was a greedy wealthy man once upon a time
I made a deal with the Devil a long-long time ago
He said he could make me live forever but there'd be a debt I'd owe
So I agreed to pay him everyday in return for eternal breath
But if I would miss a day and not pay I'd die
And I'd go straight to hell upon my death.

Each day at dusk I go down to the wishing well out in the woods
I drop down my pay for another day just like I promised I would
Devil or not we made a deal and we both keep each end of our deal good
And maybe I shouldn't cheat death quite like I do
And then again maybe I should...

Six hundred dollar bills, three twenties, a five, and a one
Six franklins, three jacksons, a lincoln, and a washington
The price I pay for life, my debt for one more day
Dollars for the Devil... So death will stay away.

I've seen almost everything there's been to see since the dawn of man
I've seen empires rise before my eyes and then fall again and again
Times of war and piece, good times and bad, I've witnessed all first-hand
And now that I see the [bad word] shape our world is in today
I think I've seen all I can stand

So I don't think I'll pay today although I know it'll make me dead
Rather than drop my dues down the well I'll just jump down myself instead
This world gets worse with every minute, this world's already lost
I've seen enough I'll end my deal and go to hell
Because I'll be much better off
