"twiggy pop"
Twiggy Pop band was founded in 2006, when Maria Maze Navrotskaya and Eugene Stolbov met each other in Kiev. As soon as they understood that they have common musical tastes and passions, they decided to found a band.
Before Eugene Stolbov took part in such bands as Trapper Pax and Foa Hoka and Masha wrote lyrics which needed a realization, also she worked as photo model in Odessa.
It is funny to notice that first rehearsals took place at the beach and unknown underground places with Eugene and Jean Michelle, violinist and pastry chef from France who inspired band by chocolate truffles and Irish folk. He took part in such songs as “Nobody knows” and “Thelma and Louise”.
It is also important to notice that song “Hitler Was A Pop Star” was composed by Jewish guy.
The first concert of a band took place in “Zosia” café in Odessa. Masha was standing on the table in white socks, and Eugene joined the sound to the TV-screens, which made public to become indignant and delighted at the same time.
Twiggy Pop led their life between Kiev and Odessa, they gave a concerts in such places as Morcheeba club, museum Arsenal, and the centre of modern art in Kiev, also in many Odessa’s underground places, such like Klarabara, Exit, Shkaf, Fanconi etc.
Guys worked with such musicians as Alexandr Kohanovskiy (Pankifared), King Imagine, Michael Krikalov, Anatoliy Dikolenko, Juriy Vannik, Sergey Klein, Alexandr Furdak, Aleksey Sviderskiy an others.
In September 2007 Masha recorded single “Bourgeoisie” (originally composed with Eugene) together with Mario Capitanio, whom she got to know on the shooting of Swiss movie, where they both were involved.
In 2008 Eugene Stolbov, guitar player and co-founder quitted the band. After this Masha composed few songs with Alexandr Kohanovskiy, which they performed at International Festival “Seas”. Also Maria took part in short movie by Anne Lise Stenseth named “Kiss and Waste”. “Norway Fjords” song was composed especially for this project. This song is included in new album “I’ve never flown by airplane”. The album will be released in summer 2009.
In September 2008 the band with new cast (Aleksey Petuhov, Kiril Bass and Vladimir Sokolovskiy) performed on Jazz Koktebel festival.
Now Maria works on new songs with Alexey Mikrukov aka King Imagine.
The songs of Twiggy Pop are more like musical diary; each song represents a period of life, in various conditions, wonderful and sad.
Masha continues to look for like-minded people and musicians for farther cooperation.
